I did my first escape the room challenge on Halloween this year. It was a lot of fun, and I highly recommend it for anyone who likes puzzles. We did not manage to complete the game in the time frame we were given, but we were close! We were at the end and only had the finale solution to figure out. If we had 10 -15 more minutes I like to think we would have escaped. It was a hard room only 6% of groups have gotten through it, so I don't feel so bad about our failure.
For anyone out there who has thought about trying one with a group of their friends I have a few tips I learned that I would like to share with you.
1. Get a big group of friends 6 -11 people. The more brains the better.
2. Search the whole room first. There may be a clue hidden somewhere that you need to solve the puzzle you are working on.
3. Spread out around the room in teams and tackle several puzzles at once. But don't be quiet, talk out loud and ask for help.
4. You may not need to solve all the puzzles in the room. Just enough to get you the answer you need.
5. Try to think of it as a real life scenario. Go though the problem out loud and think what you would do in the situation.
6. If you can't solve something don't waste too much time on it. Try switching puzzles with someone else. It might just not be your strong suit. And you may have the answer that another team couldn't think of.
Hopefully these tips will help your group make it out of the room. And you succeed where we didn't.
