Carrot Puree

At four months, I talked to our doctor about starting Ellie on solids. She suggested we wait until 6 months before we feed her grains or cereals, but we could start on pureed fruit and vegetables at any time.

At the time I wanted to make all her baby food at home so the first thing I did was put a banana in our magic bullet. I mixed it with a little water to make it runny and excitedly started to feed Ellie with a spoon. It didn't go quite as planned. She wouldn't open her mouth and when I did get the food in, it all  came right back out.

Now almost 2 months later, Ellie still isn't the best eater. She will occasional open her mouth, and about half the food ends up on her face, but we are slowly improving. I do buy canned baby food, and I add a little spice to it. Which she enjoys. Below is a carrot puree I made that she really likes.

I peeled and cut all the carrots and added them to my steamer basket. They cooked over a pot of boiling water for 8 mins or until soft.

After the carrots were cooked I put them into our magic bullet with some of the cooking water and a little nutmeg for flavour and blended until smooth. I then added the leftover puree to ice cube trays. Once they were frozen I took them out of the trays and stored them in a freezer bag.

She started off eating one cube and dinner, but likes them so much she now eats two at night.

Eliza: Five Months

Ellie loves to sit up. She gets frustrated when she is lying on her back, and lifts her head off the ground trying to sit up. She can't sit up on her own yet, although she can hold sitting for a fee seconds before falling over.

Ellie: Month 5
Length: 67cm
Weight: 13 lb

Sleeping:

Not alot has changed. She is getting small for the bassenette, it's skinny which makes it difficult for her to roll, because she likes to fall asleep on her side now.

Eating:

She tried a few more foods now. Including banana, avocado, peas, carrot, and sweet potatoe. It's still hard to get her to swallow the food and not just spit it out.

Play:

Ellie loves to play in the exersaucer we got her. It is her new favourite toy. Her favourite part of it is spinning the cylinder filled with beads.
